Gallery Information

Edwynn Houk Gallery specializes in photography. For nearly five decades, the gallery has championed artists who have explored and expanded the medium’s aesthetic, technological, and social potentials, from the leading figures of the Modernist movement to artists working today. The gallery has long specialized in vintage photography from 1917-1939, exhibiting works by Alfred Stieglitz, Man Ray, Dora Maar, László Moholy-Nagy, Tina Modotti, Edward Weston, André Kertész, Robert Frank, Dorothea Lange, El Lissitzky, Margaret Bourke-White, Brassaï, and Bill Brandt.

Since the 1990s, the gallery has expanded its focus to contemporary photography that shapes the discourse of the medium today. Beginning with exclusive representation of Sally Mann in 1989, the gallery has expanded to serve a select group of leading contemporary photographers, including Stephen Shore, Abelardo Morell, Robert Polidori, Valérie Belin, Matthew Pillsbury, Lynn Davis, Lalla Essaydi, Francesca Woodman, Annie Leibovitz, and Joel Meyerowitz. Now, with a newly designed 7,000-square-foot space at 693 Fifth Avenue—just one block from The Museum of Modern Art in a building originally designed by Philip Johnson and John Burgee—Edwynn Houk Gallery continues its mission to showcase groundbreaking photographic works that define our time.

Edwynn Houk Gallery is a member gallery of The Art Dealers Association of America and The Association of International Photography Art Dealers. Mr. Houk has served on the Board of Directors for the ADAA (Art Dealers Association of America), Paris Photo, and AIPAD and the Selection Committees for Art Basel and Paris Photo.
