All of Ginsburg's former law clerks gave her this collar at a reunion in 2018. Made by M.M.LaFleur, the collar's inner neck line is embroidered with a quote from her late husband Marty Ginsburg: "It's not sacrifice, it's family." Each layer on the piece refers to a member of the Ginsburg family. Miyako Nakamura, the chief creative officer of M. M. LaFleur, took the male shirt collar as a point of departure in a design to celebrate Ginsburg’s 85th birthday and quarter-century on the court. Nakamura and Sarah LaFleur credit Ginsburg’s struggle for workplace equality for making their own careers possible. For LaFleur, the two fittings for the collar were “the closest I ever came to meeting my personal god.”
