ELINOR CARUCCI
Ginsburg was thanked for meeting with the International Women’s Forum at the New Mexico Supreme Court with this mosaic collar by local New Mexico artists Gerard and Mary Calabaza. The piece is built of South African butterstone for healing, blue turquoise from the American Southwest for success, Indonesian mother-of-pearl for love and peace; New Zealand abalone for peace and water, and Pennsylvanian black jet for strength, with two copper dots as the artists’ signature. It is called the Sunrise collar for its wearer: Ginsburg and the rising sun both came to New Mexico from the east. Ginsburg wore it in a Court group portrait in 2017 and to an Immigration Services ceremony at the New-York Historical Society in 2018.
