Gallery Information
Edwynn Houk Gallery specializes in photography. For nearly five decades, the gallery has championed artists who have explored and expanded the medium’s aesthetic, technological, and social potentials, from the leading figures of the Modernist movement to artists working today. With a focus in particular on vintage photographs from 1917-1939, the gallery presents early works by artists such as André Kertész, László Moholy-Nagy, El Lizzitsky, Dorothea Lange, Man Ray, Tina Modotti, Brassaï, Robert Frank, Margaret Bourke-White and Dora Maar. Beginning with exclusive representation of Sally Mann in 1989, the gallery has expanded to serve a select group of leading contemporary photographers, including Stephen Shore, Abelardo Morell, Robert Polidori, Valérie Belin, Matthew Pillsbury, Lynn Davis, Lalla Essaydi, Francesca Woodman, Annie Leibovitz, and Joel Meyerowitz.
Edwynn Houk Gallery was founded in Chicago in 1977, relocating to New York City in 1990. The gallery will move from its longtime flagship exhibition space at 745 Fifth Avenue to a new 7,000 square foot location at 693 Fifth Avenue in March 2025.
Edwynn Houk Gallery participates in select global art fairs, including Art Basel, the Armory Show (New York), Paris Photo and Art Basel Miami Beach. Mr. Houk has served on the Board of Directors for the ADAA (Art Dealers Association of America), Paris Photo, and AIPAD and the Selection Committees for Art Basel and Paris Photo.
