Abelardo Morell for The New York Times Magazine

For 2021's The Lives They Lived issue, The New York Times Magazine commissioned Abelardo Morell to photograph the shoes of some of the cultural figures who died during the year including Eric Carle, Larry McMurty, Pee Wee Ellis, Hank Aaron, and Halyna Hutchins.
