Erwin Olaf's iconic image Hope Portrait 5 (2005) hangs in the Rijksmuseum's Gallery of Honour next to Girl in a Blue Dress (1641) by Johannes Verspronck.
Erwin Olaf died on 20 September 2023 at the age of 64. He was a leading photographer for over four decades and developed a close relationship with the Rijksmuseum; notably, in 2018, the museum received his core collection of more than 500 of his works. In recognition of the artist's outsized contributions to their national arts culture and the museum specifically, Olaf's iconic image Hope Portrait 5 (2005) hangs in the Gallery of Honour next to Girl in a Blue Dress (1641) by Johannes Verspronck.
