Sebastiaan Bremer's work is on view in the Brooklyn Museum's inaugural edition of The Brooklyn Artists Exhibition, on view from October 4, 2024 - January 26, 2025. The show unites works from more than 200 artists who live or have studios in Brooklyn, where Bremer has worked for 23 years.
In his 2023 portrait Inez and Vinoodh 1, Bremer uses a layered Pointillist technique that combines drawing, painting, and photography to transform photographed portraits into unending interior landscapes. He blends and merges individuals and groups using long exposures and camera movements, followed by the laborious application of painted dots, capturing and suspending singular moments in time. Constantly in flux, Bremer’s images capture the way in which partnership evolves through mutual intellectual, emotional, and sometimes physical exchange.
